Project Summary
The challenge: A rapidly expanding animal feed manufacturer in Nakhon Ratchasima Province (Korat), Thailand, depends on corn for 55–60% of its feed formulations. Previously, the client purchased dried corn through intermediaries, which led to inflated procurement costs, inconsistent grain quality, and recurring supply shortages during peak demand seasons. These vulnerabilities threatened production continuity and margin stability. To secure a reliable year-round supply of high-quality corn, the client required a dedicated storage and drying facility with 6,000 tonnes of capacity, the ability to receive and dry high-moisture corn at scale, and high-speed outload capability for efficient truck dispatch. The solution had to address Thailand's tropical climate, where ambient humidity and temperatures accelerate grain spoilage if moisture and temperature are not tightly controlled.
Our solution: Manxing delivered a turnkey EPC solution designed for the full corn intake-to-dispatch workflow. The storage system comprises two FB-18.3 flat-bottom bins with a combined capacity of 6,000 tonnes, constructed from 275 g/m² galvanized steel rated for a 30+ year service life. Each bin is engineered for structural integrity under full-load conditions and tropical weather exposure. At the drying core, a CT-50 continuous grain drying tower equipped with a biomass hot air furnace reduces incoming wet corn from high harvest moisture down to a safe 14% storage moisture level. The biomass furnace lowers operating costs by utilizing locally available fuel sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Material handling is managed by high-capacity bucket elevators and belt conveyors engineered for continuous, high-throughput operation. The facility integrates comprehensive aeration and temperature monitoring systems within each bin, preventing hot spots and moisture migration during extended storage. A PLC-controlled grain distribution system automates intake routing, drying sequences, and outload dispatching, enabling a truck loading rate of 200 tonnes per hour. This automation minimizes manual intervention, reduces loading errors, and ensures consistent grain quality from intake through dispatch.
The outcome: The completed facility provides the client with a stable, year-round corn supply, eliminating dependence on intermediaries and reducing procurement costs by approximately 20%. Seasonal price fluctuations are no longer a risk, as the client can purchase and dry corn at harvest when prices are lowest. High-speed truck loading at 200 t/h significantly improves dispatch efficiency, reducing vehicle turnaround time and logistics bottlenecks. The integrated aeration and temperature monitoring systems maintain grain at safe moisture and temperature levels throughout the storage period, preserving feed-grade quality and minimizing losses.
