Sources compiled from USDA grain storage guidelines and university extension publications.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Type a crop name — common or scientific name (e.g. corn, Zea mays, wheat). The list filters as you type.
  2. Read the row — safe moisture %, max safe storage duration at 15°C and 25°C, and whether aeration is required.
  3. Open Details — click the Details button to see crop-specific notes (spoilage risks, special handling, etc.).
  4. Clear the search — click Reset Search to list all crops again.

How It Works

Each crop row compiles three safe-storage parameters from peer-reviewed extension literature:

  • Safe moisture — the maximum moisture content at which the crop can be stored without significant mold growth or quality loss.
  • Max safe storage duration — the longest advisable storage period at the given temperature. Higher temperature dramatically shortens safe storage because biological activity (respiration, mold, insects) accelerates.
  • Aeration requirement — most crops benefit from aeration to equalize temperature and moisture. Listed as Yes/Conditional/No.

The data is indicative; local varieties, harvest condition and bin management affect actual safe storage. Always verify with a moisture test before long-term storage.
